The New Year is right around the corner and NOW is the time to start planning for your 2016 health and fitness goals. If you've done several 5K and 10K races and are ready to take your running to the next level but aren't sure how to get started, our Half-Marathon training program is a great next step in your progression as a runner, and a fun new challenge.
The twice weekly workouts for this class are geared toward those fit individuals who would like to complete their first half-marathon, or those experienced with this distance who would like to set a PR. Because this program is 10 weeks, we require that participants MUST be able to comfortably run 5 miles by the first class. We will work with you to hone your existing running and fitness skills with emphasis on pace and increased endurance. Ample time is given to event preparation so that you have a successful and positive race day. In addition to our twice weekly group workouts is an online component where we provide you with what's happening in class that week as well as in-between class homework. The timing of the program is a good fit for most late winter/early spring half marathons.
Where/When: Class will meet at our Time Warner Center location and workouts will take place in Central Park Tuesdays from 6:45-7:45pm and Saturdays at 8:30am Jan 10th, 2017 thru Sat, Mar 18th, 2017
Coach: Melanie Kann
Coach Melanie Kann: After nearly 9 years in the weight loss biz and a lifetime spent working in theatre, Melanie decided to follow her passion for nurturing runners and received her RRCA coaching certification in 2015. Since then, Melanie’s coached hundreds of runners of all different ability levels both through Jackrabbit’s and NYRR’s training programs. As a runner, Melanie has completed 18 marathons, an ultra marathon, and too many half marathons to count (she lost track when she hit 30 of them.) Melanie firmly believes that even though running can be perceived as a solo endeavor, runners are at their best when they train as part of a group. To that end, building a strong sense of community and camaraderie are central to Melanie’s coaching philosophy. After all… “it’s funner with a runner!”
