URBAN RUNNING HITS THE STREETS

They’re not your traditional runners! Urban runners and their urban crews are taking over streets, sidewalks, and alleyways, as they maneuver through the vast city abyss. It’s not a fad- it’s a movement. #RunUrban.

URBAN RUNNING HITS THE STREETS

Call it an act of defiance, or the anti-run club; all around the world urban runners are taking to the city streets discovering their city’s different neighborhoods via a pair of running shoes.

What started as an alternative running movement is growing into an international tribe of runners taking to the streets of major cities with their crews.

Strava (the be all and end all of run tracking) has so many urban running clubs listed that wherever you find yourself in the world, there is probably an urban adventure you can go on (safely) in an unfamiliar city.

FASHION AND FUNCTION IN URBAN RUNNING

Urban running crews are not about qualifying for Boston or bettering your PR (but you might find you do anyway!), it’s about bringing together people who respect the desire to move and make it accessible to anyone who wants to share running fitness with their peers.

Urban running with it’s cool, laid back vibe, gives runners a whole new interpretation on what to wear and athletic brands are on it! JackRabbit has curated a cool new collection of Urban Running Gear – the ultimate cool vibe in running streetwear.

JACKRABBIT CAM GOES ON HER OWN URBAN RUNNING ADVENTURE

We asked our own urban runner and JackRabbit design guru Cam, to share with us her urban running adventures in Denver. She took off in her new Nike React shoes and Nike Women’s Bliss Luxe Pants and Sphere Therma Element running top and led us on a trip around the streets of Denver’s Mile High City.

Colorado is known for its mountains, but Denver has a new up and coming art scene and Cam took us on an afternoon tour of the RiNo Arts District in Denver. RiNo is known for its urban art vibe where up and coming graffiti artists are coming to the area to practice their craft.

Cam is in training for the Colfax Half Marathon (an urban marathon if ever there was one) and so she and her running pal took a four mile jaunt around the city, then checked in at The Denver Central Market for a plant-based tofu rice veggie bowl and putting up their shoes for a well earned rest.

Added bonus? There ain’t no mountains in Denver, but we are up high. RiNo offers a flat, fast running experience with an unparalleled view of the Rocky Mountains to add a little bit of nature to your running adventure.

With more and more brands offering a urban styling to their running gear, there is no shame in hanging at the local eatery wearing your run kicks and training gear. Check out all our Urban Running Gear at JackRabbit for an outfit to kick off your urban outing.

URBAN RUNNING CREWS

There are seemingly endless urban running crews to be found in most cities. Best places to check them out are your local running stores (ooh, like JackRabbit for example!), using MeetUp or your local online news hubs.

URBAN RUNNING INTERNATIONAL

Traveling overseas and still want to run? Check out more urban running crews around the world on Strava’s Running Blog. We like to call this type of travel ‘running tourism’ at its best. What better way to see a new city than with the locals who live there and who share your passion for getting out on their own two feet?

You’ll find crews to run with in Paris, London, Paris, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Melbourne.

Each urban run club has their own style and goals but most get hit the street for equal parts running and socializing.
