I first laid my eyes on them last Fall. As a sample size, I was quick to slip them on….holy bonkers. In my current rotation sat the Adrenaline ASR, Terra Kiger and Speedcross. Just like that, I wanted nothing else. As good fortune goes, I was given a pair to test ride in April and frankly, it’s been a love affair ever since. Briefly chronicled my first 2 runs for P&D, but the user experience has only gotten better with time. Enjoy. But please, don’t touch my Speedgoats. They’re mine.
PRO: Just as I remembered from preline LY, the step in hug from this Speedgoat 2 literally makes you want to get outside. What I liked most about the all-inclusive ride in this baby, was the overall stability. Not too rigid, not loosey goosey. The upper felt light and breathable, the mesh perfectly placed to allow my unfortunate bunion space to do its thing in a not overly swimming forefoot. The lugs were AWESOME on Run 2, Bailey and I scampered up a rock formation (see pic) feeling like I could hear actual suction, impressive grip. The minimal, yet obligatory, outer protection on the toebox did its job when my forefoot skidded off kilter on rock and while stomping through a low flowing melt off stream. It just feels so cushioned, even some current plantar fasciitis wasn’t complaining.
CON: No joke, it’s freaking hard to find one. Possible hot spot underneath my first metatarsal (big toe). Tried adjusting my lacing, but overtightened and cut off circulation. Gimme a break, I’m grasping for something less than awesome to say.
