ASICS CUMULUS 21
A NEW YORK CITY MARATHON JOURNEY
JackRabbit marketing star, dog owner and MS campaigner Kenzi Kaplan-Lopez signed up to run the New York City Marathon as her first 26.2 race. As an ASICS fan, Kenzi knew she had to make a big decision when it came to what running shoe
was going to be her race day partner to get her to the Central Park finish line.

NEW YORK MILES AND THE ASICS CUMULUS 21
Running has become a large part of my adult life. While I would not describe myself a natural runner, I work hard and the work pays off. Add to that, I love a challenge and pushing myself to the limits, so 2019 was the year I decided
to take on my first 26.2 mile run and signed up to race in the New York City Marathon.
I soon learned my first lesson – what all seasoned marathoners already know – there were two questions everyone asked when they
find out I was going to run a marathon:
1. What finish time are you shooting for?
2. What shoes are you going to wear?
The first question was always easy for me because as a first-timer, the goal is
to cross the actual finish line 26.2 miles after the start! The second one however, is more complex. The running shoe options are endless, and when I started training, I truly had no idea what shoes I would wear on race day.
The long mileage I was about to keep adding to the weekly training, made me start to seriously thinking about what type of shoe would hold up plus get me through the training without injury and supported.
have been a die-hard ASICS fan for years now, so naturally, I was drawn to the brand to take me on my NYC journey. I have the fortune of being able to test a lot of shoes and last year I solidly fell in love with the ASICS GEL
Nimbus. It quickly became my go-to shoe. Well, it was… until I met the Cumulus 21 this year.
ASICS CUMULUS 20 MAKES WAY FOR THE ASICS CUMULUS 21
Having tried the previous edition of the GEL Cumulus, the stiffness of that version was something that I could never get used to. I enjoyed the added room in the toe-box, but it still wasn’t the same comfort that the Nimbus provided during
Version 21 one of the Cumulus however nearly fixed everything I disliked about version 20.
In the neutral shoe category, the ASICS Cumulus 21 is one of the most adaptable shoes. It is more flexible compared to the previous version and has a strong rubber outsole that provides excellent grip in a variety of conditions.
After marathon training and actual race day,
the shoes held up nicely with little wear. If you are a heel-striker, you will enjoy the gel heel cup that softens the blows. I certainly enjoyed this after pounding the pavement for 26.2 miles in New York City.
21 has turned into my new favorite running shoe! If you’re new to ASICS currently this is the model I would recommend to start your ASICS journey.
And if you’re already loyal ASICS fan, you’re absolutely going to love this edition
of the Cumulus.
