TRY SOMETHING NEW, TRY THE NEW ALTRA SOLSTICE
Nothing good comes from resting on your laurels.
That mantra also holds true for running shoes. Wear a pair of shoes one run too long and your legs are going to hate you for it.
Keep wearing the same shoes time and time over and you’ll never discover the cornucopia of running shoes that could open your eyes (and feet) to a whole new world.
JACKRABBITS HAVE THEIR SAY ABOUT THE NEW ALTRA SOLSTICE
One special treat at JackRabbit is getting to try new shoes, hot off the shoe press. It pushes us outside of our shoe-comfort zone and we love it.
Altra running launched the Solstice in January 2018, and we were given the ultimate privilege of sampling the shoe across all of our varied running legs.
We are marathon runners, triathletes, 10k-ers, Orange Fitness crews, and Friday-lunchtime runners. We like to think we cover most running bases with our collective running legs!
Here’s what our feet had to say about the Altra Solstice.
THE NEW ALTRA SOLSTICE – OUR FEET SPEAK UP
“Sooo I absolutely love these shoes. They are lighter than my Ons and way more comfortable. My toes have a lot of room to move without it being awkward or too big, it’s soft and malleable without losing that supportive feel. Compared to other “mesh like” uppers I’ve tried, this feels more strong knit. I have a high arch and this zero drop thing feels really natural when I walk. I don’t feel like I need to keep up with the shoe or the shoe has to keep up with me.
There is a crazy reflective back panel that I noticed when only a little sunlight was coming in from behind me. It’s was almost blinding, so that’s good for safety while running in the dark! The whole shoe feels the same, there’s no weird tightness or pressure in certain areas.
I would definitely recommend the Solstice after doing some really good walking around in these and even a short jog. Also they’re sleek and sexy which means I can be comfortable AND hot at the same time to fit my mostly black aesthetic.”
– Cam, JR design team, tall, lean and a born-to-be marathoner.
“First shoe that I don’t feel like my toes are all squished, but it’s still tight around my tiny heels!”
– Chloe, runner, email marketer and chief motivator
“Went for a run on the dreadmill, and I really like the Solstice! The toe box is a good kind of spacious, I’ve never run in Altra’s before and I really like that I have plenty of space in the shoe while still having the feeling of a light and lean shoe. Also feels much better when I get to watch Notre Dame lose in double OT while I run. Hooray!”
– Eric, the offical JR shoe guy, also known as Lord Hubbard
“I also did a treadmill run in the Solstice. I love that my favorite foot shaped toe box got a makeover, so it looks as good as it feels! Side note: I’m still an Escalante girl. I do have some critiques about the shoe and step in feel, but I did appreciate the Solstice updates as well.”
– Wendy, Marketer-in-chief and 13.1 slayer
“I’m an Altra Running newbie and typically prefer shoes with a decent amount of cushion, so I was pleasantly surprised by how good these felt when I first put them on. They definitely feel more “low to the ground” than what I’m used to, but I really love how much room there is in the toe box! My big toe sometimes pokes through the top of my shoes, but with so much space for my piggies to wiggle in this foot-shaped toe box, I don’t see that being a problem with the Solstice!”
– Emily, social media lady and JR paparazzi lead
“I went for a walk in these and just love how comfy they are. As a stability runner, I can’t say I’ll log a ton of miles in these specific shoes, but the wide toe box is refreshingly comfortable, and they’re pretty stylish! I can see myself including them in my sneaker rotation and probably breaking them in a bit at OrangeTheory or Fit36.”
– Chase, chief JR artist and soon-to-be Alaskan trail runner
